It’s 10 years since we moved from Cumbria over to the fantastic city of Durham. What a 10 years those have been! We’ve photographed so many weddings here in the North East, at some superb venues. I thought I’d do a little round up of 10 of the venues we’ve worked at, and a few photos from each.
Every wedding is so different, and weddings at the same venue are too. A wedding day is all about the people, and the personality of each couple, and it’s great to see those shine through at a wedding.
As wedding photographers in the North East, we get to work at so many brilliant venues, there’s something for everyone, whether you want a grand stately home, a castle, a vintage barn wedding, or something entirely different. We’ve photographed weddings at many others venues in the North East too, we have more venue galleries on the website!
Definitely one of our all time favourites. Wynyard Hall has a choice of having a religious ceremony in the chapel, or having a civil ceremony in one of the rooms in the main building. There’s also a big marquee now for larger weddings, with it’s own grounds. The food is great, the staff are brilliant, and every day runs smoothly.
A superb contemporary venue right on the coast, the grounds are brilliant. There’s an amazing vortex water feature outside the front of the hall too, wonder how much one would cost for our garden……! We’d also recommend the spa, we’ve been a few times (not on a wedding day though!) The first photo is from Ruth & David’s wedding, Ruth & her bridesmaids watching the guests arrive from their room. Some of the photos from Wynyard Hall are actually from David’s sister Sarah’s wedding which we photographed this year. Was great to catch up with them all again 🙂
The closest venue to home for us out of the 10 here, only 10 minutes from our house! If you’re looking for an old castle then this is the place for you, so much character and atmosphere. There’s also a choice of rooms for your wedding, and they’re quite different. Lumley Castle can host more than one wedding per day, but they’re great at coordinating each wedding so your paths won’t cross 🙂
South Causey Inn
A very popular venue, particularly now they’ve built The Old Barn which can also host outdoor ceremonies. We’re looking forward to photographing more weddings at South Causey, the photos below are from Ashleigh & Neil’s wedding from early 2016, such a fun day with a lovely relaxed couple.
We love Crook Hall. Perfect for relaxed weddings, we’ve photographed weddings in the Medieval Hall and also outdoor ceremonies. The owners of the hall help plan your wedding, and they’re some of the nicest and most helpful people we’ve ever met! The gardens are stunning, with views over to the Cathedral.
A very classy exclusive use country house venue up in rural Northumberland. Weddings we’ve photographed at Eshott have felt very relaxed, almost like a home from home for the couple and their guests.
Heading down to the south of Durham now, to the fabulous Redworth Hall. A real mix of old and new, with the Great Hall and also contemporary function suites. We’re one of Redworth’s featured photography teams, which is brilliant as it’s one of our favourite places to shoot!
Another exclusive use venue, which gives the option of indoor or outdoor ceremonies, we’ve been lucky enough that all of our couples who’ve wanted an outdoor ceremony have had them, the weather must be on our side 🙂 It’s another relaxed venue, with excellent food, and large grounds so plenty of scope for photo locations.
One of the first venues we photographed at over in the North East, and what a venue it is! Again a choice of rooms, and the Winter Gardens is great if you have a long guest list as it can seat 280!
Last but definitely not least! If you’re looking to make a grand entrance to your wedding ceremony this is the one for you….. Matfen again has a good mix of the traditional and contemporary with various rooms available. Also the food is great! We’ve stayed as guests ourselves a few times and would recommend it 🙂
