Laura & Neil’s Wedding – St. Stephen’s Church & Redworth Hall

Laura & Neil were married back in May, and what a day it was. Such a great couple, lovely family, and the day was superb. When Laura & Neil chose their wedding date, 19th May, they didn’t expect to be sharing it with Harry & Meghan! It’s the first time we’ve photographed the bridal preparations while also seeing wedding preparations on the TV!

One big surprise on the day was the North East Singing Waiters – booked in secret so even Laura & Neil weren’t expecting them! They also had a half and half wedding cake – traditional from the front, and personalised on the back! A brilliant idea 🙂

Laura & Neil very kindly answered these questions for the blog:

Venue – St. Stephen’s Church, Willington & Redworth Hall

Dress – My wedding dress was from Blue Bow Bridal shop in Durham. It was a Ronald Joyce dress, I added lace onto the dress for an off the shoulder look to make it bespoke. I loved wearing it.

Accessories – So my favourite movie is Wizard of Oz, for as long as I can remember I have always said when I get married I want to wear ruby slippers. I found a company on Facebook that designed / decorated shoes for you (they had already done ruby slippers). I found a comfortable shoe that I would keep on all day and sent it away to the company and she made me the shoes of my dreams I loved them so much. The company was called Your Heart Desires 1.

My jewellery was a wedding present from my now husband. He bought me matching necklace and earrings from Beaverbrooks. They were beautiful pearl and diamond effect that I had told a friend / bridesmaid I liked as it matched my dress and she helped him along the way. I also wore a Tiffany bracelet, that he actually bought while we were on holiday in Dubai in the March. My bridesmaid dresses were a Tiffany colour so he did good to match everything in.

Suits – All the men’s suits were hired from a shop in Bishop Auckland called Special Occasions.

Which of your suppliers would you recommend? – When looking for suppliers I like looking at more local and small businesses just I feel like sometimes it’s more personal. Our florist was Amo Les Flores, she is amazing, she is just a young girl who has set up her own business. Mine and the bridesmaids bouquets were exactly what I wanted, she was perfect throughout the whole planning nothing was too much for her would 100% recommend her for everything flower related.

Mine and bridesmaids hairs were done also by a salon in Bishop Auckland Truly Scumptious, the girls came to my house on the morning of the wedding and they were so so lovely.

Make up for myself and the bridesmaids were done by Amy Gibson and Kelsey Athey. The girls did an amazing job for both trials and on the day, again they came to the house on the morning and it just made the start of the day special straight away.

Our cake which was amazing was made by The Cake House in Spennymoor, again it looked and tasted amazing!

Honeymoon – We decided we wanted to have the best of both worlds exploring and chilled out. We started in Dominican Republic at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, it was perfect! We were there for a week and it was exactly what we wanted a beautiful place just to totally chill out. Our next stop was New York, this again was fabulous we well and truly explored this city and have made some fabulous memories. It was exactly what we wanted.

Favourite memory from the day – It’s so hard to pick a favourite memory. I know everyone says this but honestly the whole day was perfect. I think because Neil and I have been together since we were 14 it was just crazy that it was actually happening. I can remember a few years ago saying that the 19th of May would fall on a Saturday in 2018 and as that’s the date we first ever got together all them years ago we joked about getting married this day as we were only teenagers, but it actually happened. I waked down the aisle to the song I always wanted to with my ruby red slippers I dreamed about as a child. So as cheesy as it sounds everything that we always wanted happened and it was perfect in every way.

Advice to other couples planning their wedding – The best advice I can think of is to do things for yourself. A few times I could feel myself becoming stressed because I tried to keep different people happy and bent over backwards to make sure everyone was going to be happy and enjoy the day. However from this it sometimes caused stressful situations, so basically when you plan your wedding be a bit selfish and do exactly what you and your partner want instead of trying to keep everyone else happy it is just about yourself and your partner.
